Time for a Reel A MINECRAFT MOVIE review

About the film (courtesy of Warner Bros.):
Welcome to the world of Minecraft, where creativity doesn’t just help you craft, it’s essential to one’s survival! Four misfits—Garrett “The Garbage Man” Garrison (Jason Momoa), Henry (Sebastian Hansen), Natalie (Emma Myers) and Dawn (Danielle Brooks)—find themselves struggling with ordinary problems when they are suddenly pulled through a mysterious portal into the Overworld: a bizarre, cubic wonderland that thrives on imagination. To get back home, they’ll have to master this world (and protect it from evil things like Piglins and Zombies, too) while embarking on a magical quest with an unexpected, expert crafter, Steve (Jack Black). Together, their adventure will challenge all five to be bold and to reconnect with the qualities that make each of them uniquely creative…the very skills they need to thrive back in the real world.

A Minecraft Movie is a great kids movie. It is funny all the way through with a good amount of feel-good moments. The movie portrayed the elements of creativity seen throughout playing the game to make the entire thing more relatable and fun to watch. The introduction to the world of Minecraft and the entire story’s world is great, but simple to keep the film easy to follow. The entire theater was laughing at many of the fun jokes, creating a more fun experience for everyone watching.

A Minecraft Movie had surprisingly great special effects portraying the “blockiness” of the Minecraft world excellently. The characters and events in the plot of the movie help create a more relatable film that lovers of the game can enjoy and understand. The entire movie is action after action, which allows the characters to use their creativity to solve problems and reach their goal. The chemistry between the actors is outstanding, allowing for a good brother-sister relationship between Natalie and Henry, played by Emma Myers and Sabastian Hansen, respectively.

Jack Black is a great choice to portray the character of Steve. He is one of the most iconic actors that everyone knows, making him the perfect fit for Steve. And his chemistry with Jason Momoa is so much fun to watch. Jason Momoa’s portrayal of Garret Garrison, a down on his luck has-been from the 80s arcade era, is played perfectly and fits in great to the story. Danielle Brooks does a great job as the supporting new friend and real estate agent, Dawn, as she gets dragged along for the adventure.

To sum the experience up the film, it’s a great watch for kids, lovers of the game, and any parents who happened to be dragged along for the fun. Every joke lands and every fight scene is enjoyed. Now go buy your tickets at the theater near you and enjoy the epic experience of A Minecraft Movie! Exclusively in theaters Starting Friday, April 4th.
