Time for a Reel MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE – DEAD RECKONING PART ONE review

About the film (courtesy of Paramount Pictures):
Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) and his IMF team embark on their most dangerous mission yet: To track down a terrifying new weapon that threatens all of humanity before it falls into the wrong hands. With control of the future and the fate of the world at stake, and dark forces from Ethan’s past closing in, a deadly race around the globe begins. Confronted by a mysterious, all-powerful enemy, Ethan is forced to consider that nothing can matter more than his mission – not even the lives of those he cares about most.

Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One is a triumphant return for the franchise, and one of the best action movies, if not THE best, of the year. Tom Cruise is once again in top form, delivering some of the most jaw-dropping stunts ever seen on film. I’ll take two of whatever this guy is having! The supporting cast is also excellent, with a host of names all giving memorable performances.

Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One‘s action sequences are truly epic, and the stakes are higher than ever before. There are several sequences that will leave you breathless, including a motorcycle chase through Rome, a train fight in the Norwegian mountains, and a HALO jump over the English Channel. The film is also surprisingly funny, with several well-placed gags that will keep you laughing. We have all become accustomed to seeing action and comedy delivered hand-in-hand to some degree.

Of course, no Mission: Impossible movie would be complete without some mind-bending twists and turns. Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One features a plot that is full of surprises, and you’ll never know what’s coming next. If you’re a fan of the franchise, you’ll love Dead Reckoning Part One. Quite honestly, even with its massive 163 minute runtime, one could argue that it’s worth investing twice that to experience a second time around. There’s A LOT to take in and process.

I truly appreciate the fact that you know ahead of time that you’re only getting part of the story with a very above board title like, Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One. I am definitely not a fan of the “gotcha” approach. Still though, this film contains more than enough meaningful content to make it a very worthy experience as its own film.

To sum things up without giving much more than the obvious away. The stunts are incredible. Tom Cruise is a master of his craft, and he delivers some of the most jaw-dropping stunts ever seen on film. The story itself is exciting and suspenseful containing several twists and turns that will keep you guessing until the very end.

The characters are well-developed and relatable, as per usual. You’ll root for Ethan Hunt and his team as they race against time to save the world. And we can’t forget that all important humor layer. It’s well-placed and adds to the fun of Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One.

Overall, Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One is a must-see for action fans. It’s a thrilling, suspenseful, and funny film that will leave you entertained from start to finish. I highly recommend it and you don’t have to wait long as various early theatrical showtimes exist, if you’re checking the right places. The official release date is Wednesday, July 12th and it will be in theaters everywhere across the country. Don’t miss this one!
